To be honest, 8GB are more than enough unless you work with HUGE, and i mean HUGE photoshop images.
I myself own 8GB, as a media designer working with placard-size images.(300k x 100k size) |

the timings are great.
you could get away much cheaper if you'd change the gfx card. a 580 is nice but in no way needed. a zotac GTX 470 AMP! edition for example isn't much slower than a 580 but only around 300usd. the saved 200 usd could get you a new monitor for example =p |

23" is in no way too small, or too large for my needs. I read about the 470/580 debate on a tomshardware and on a ZAM thread and they are similiar in the end, the 470 overclocked is about the same as stock 580, but it won't be the same. A 580 may not be needed NOW, but in the future it could be. Mind you, this will be the last time I build a computer for about 4 or 5 years so it has to have something that will last the entire time, and I feel the 580 will be playing on medium around then which is fine with me. I can justify that graphics cards cost anyways. I'm selling my old computer and it will be enough for the gfx card and the ram, so I'll only be paying about 1k out of pocket. I do appreciate you looking out for me though. |

yep, 580 is probably the best card you can currently get for future proofing as it handles dx11 the best. the only thing better you can get is a 5970 but i highly highly doubt you want to spend 700$ on a graphics card.
as for the ram, its fine gskill is my favorite company to buy ram from, never had any problems with them. Last edited by tiger1526; 01-18-2011 at 12:46 PM. |

A word of advice since you are using an i7 2600k you should get RAM that is 1.5v.
It is said that the new Sandy Bridge CPUs are designed for 1.5v RAM and if it is higher that it could damage the memory controller. People have tried higher voltage RAM and they seem to have a stable system but they could run into future problems. So to be safe make sure your RAM is 1.5v. |
