Anyone know anything about this virus or how to get rid of it? A family member of mine got it somehow and it won't let us run update etc. any of the virus scanner's already on there, can't do a live scan because it won't let it download anything from that site and can't put it directly on her computer because it claims it's not a windows 32 application or something.
Our best guess at this point is to just reformat because it won't let us really do anything at all to get rid of it. |

If you know what conficker does, you know that antiviruses, the websites to antiviruses and microsoft.com are blocked by default, safe mode or not. :/
Best way to format would be: Format your HDD, don't install windows yet. Turn off PC, unplug everything that's connected to your PC. Take out CMOS battery. Wait +-10-15mins. Plug everything back in, including the CMOS battery. Install windows. This makes sure every part is discharged, making it impossible for any virus to survive in the ram or BIOS memory. There's a guide to removing conficker manually, but last and only time I needed to do that there were steps missing or not applicable. That makes the whole guide irrelevant so format would be the quicker/easier solution. You also could try scanning with a linux based OS and antivirus, but I cannot say it will work.
