Default Sony PSP2 revealed, now known as NGP

Quote:
Specs include a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 5-inch touchscreen OLED display with 960 x 544 resolution, dual analog sticks (not nubs as on the current generation), 3G, WiFi, GPS, a rear-mounted touchpad, the same accelerometer / gyroscope motion sensing as in the PlayStation Move, an electronic compass, and cameras on both the front and back. Available this holiday season.
No word on price, but Hideo Kojima ran a MGS4 custscene on the thing during the press conference.

Quote:
Games will come on "new media," not UMD anymore, but we're unclear on what sort of flash memory is being used. Sony's rather proud of the fact it's offering the world's first dual analog stick combo on a portable device, though we're more geeked about the quadrupling of pixel count from the original PSP.

Sony's live event has been graced by demos of some pretty popular games, including Killzone, Resistance, Little Big Planet, and Uncharted -- with the latter serving as a demo platform to show off how the NGP's rear touchpad can be used to more intuitively climb up some vines. That touch panel on the back is the same size and positioned directly under the front OLED touchscreen, which allows for some pretty sophisticated controls when using the two simultaneously.

I want two. Hopefully it won't cost the same as a PS3.

This thing is gonna be overpriced and with the build quality of the PSPs it's probably going to be flimsy.

Though I am interested in the OLED screen and the new flash memory-based cards for games. Though if this thing is not gonna have backwards compatibility and lame PS3 games that I don't even like like all the FPS games and MGS then this is a definite wait for me. I like to wait up to a year before I buy any system handheld or otherwise. These things are investments and I wont jump on the bandwagon simply because Sony made in my opinion a dumbed down smart phone capable of playing games.

But I am rooting for the NGP and I hope it's hack proof cause this thing is gonna need a lot of game developers support to be worth it. And I still don't even have a PS3! Why? Because the games are terrible! The PSP I have now is the original one (best one IMHO) and even that doesn't have any great games. But heh if people are going to buy a handheld just because you can play games on it that are already out on the PS3 then that's just silly. But but butt sex0rs I have a sexy feeling that the NGP will help make the PSN even sexier.

I'm more interested if this will cease all forms of piracy for their games.

Hm instead of pirating games you should do research on what games are worth buying and which are not and then play demos of games that you want to buy if available or just do what I do and buy a used one at gamestop and return it if you hate it (I do this a lot).

Then that'll ruin the element of surprise !

But honestly, I'm just too lazy to do research on the games. So I'm guessing we might see some 'good' FPS games on this PSP2 in the future?

Oooh, hypehype.

You mean the element of feeling stupid for buying a stupid game? Yeah, ok.

Probably just ports of PS3 hits and then maybe spin offs of PS3 hits and perhaps some good ones in between the ports.

Don't hype too hard! You might hurt yourself! But heh I don't get how people can buy stuff and not research it first. I go crazy reading up on a game then I go to like 4 different sites to check reviews then I read just normal people's reviews and then I have to look at screenshots a lot and read about the plot and characters and ugh I'm getting a boner just thinking about it.

But wow you live in Singapore? Awesome! And by default you're awesome too.

^ Haha. I tend to just look at the cover of the game - the title of the game and if they all seem good, I'd just buy them. Either that, or I'll just grab those famous franchise I know of.

I don't get why anyone would wanna research the games they buy, it's not like you're going to marry your games!
