I've been away from playing MMO's for awhile, especially playing anything really "Hardcore". I used to play WoW and had 5 level 80's, quit awhile before cata came out and I don't really want to go back to having to pay 15/mo. One of the reasons I played WoW so much and really got into it was because of the importance of guilds, I was always apart of the group of players that were always on vent talking about random things just chilling when there's nothing better to do. Met a lot of good in game friends that way so really I'm looking for another game that's free but has a lot of emphasis on guilds and ventrilo or voice chat, after all whats the point of playing an online game without player interaction? I've been looking at RoM as it's similar to WoW, I don't really pvp very much just the occasional match for fun. I'm wondering how good PVE content and how cash shop dependent RoM is.

League of Legends, to my knowledge.
I also know my guild will go back to Soul Master once it's relaunched this summer. Guild Wars, Heroes of Newerth, Call of Duty, and Starcraft 2 also are vent heavy. |

You arent going to find a decent fp game with a decent enough community/builds in them. Usually its best to already have a guild going into them. I can reccomend Conquer Online as making friends and helping others is encouraged through in-game mechanics. Hight level players gain points for rare items when power leveling new players (power leveling works until about lvl 40-50 and theres a lot more levels after that). And Guilds are important because its an open pvp game and being in a big guild means not getting ganked so often.
I'm in that same boat you're in right now, not really wanting to pay the 15 dollars a month. I find myself wanting to spend 15 on dinner rather that an mmo. But if you ever change your mind I reccomend trying the free trial for City of heroes/villains. Its guild/super group system is the best I've seen in any game. Everyone in the group can turn on "Super Group Mode" wihich llets them gain Prestige which are points that the group leaders can used to buy items for the SuperGroup/Guild base. Usually guild leaders reward their membes in many ways based on how much prestige they've earned (its all kept track of. I've seem small hideout type places and I've seem bases that were super giant and i've gotten lost in them. Its pretty impressive what you can do with a good guild in that game. And unlike other games you can have a super awesome base with turret guns and teleporters within 3 or 4 weeks if you have at least 15 to 20 decent members. If neither of those are good enough, the only othe thing I can vouch for is Guild Wars. The only thing I use guilds for though is asking questions. Unless you like pvp and find a pvp guild they arent much use. A lot of them say they help with pve stuff, but they never really deliver. Thats just my observation though.

One of the nicest guys I know (he plays as a musician at international concerts) plays City of Heroes... So that'd be my reason for playing the game... Except I wouldn't want to make him more addicted - so I go back to League of Legends :P

Heroes of Gaia, browser game, uses vent. It does.
I'm a pretty anti-guild, they only bring you headaches type of person. So no real suggestions but I agree, WoW had some great guilds. I would: 1) write out a theme/ type of game i like. MMORPG or RTS? Fantasy or SciFi or Anime or Mech theme? Dark, Neutral, or Light theme? etc. Then pick a game based on that. Chances are if you like the game theme, like minded individuals will too. Back to soloing, IMT |
