Actually, it wasn't so much dirt as costing the state a lot of money.
There were many people constantly digging up whatever dirt as possible, anything that had little to no criminal backing, and using this to sue her. Because she was the governor, each lawsuit cost the state tax money to defend her in court.
Ultimately, she was forced into a situation whether she should give in and let the Lefties win, or keep defending herself, having the state hate her for extensive tax spending for the sake of defense, and the Lefties still winning.
In an effort to save the state from a possible millions in court cases, she resigned; however, she has announced big plans ahead for her.
Amidst the resignation announcement, she said she would not be staying around as "the lame duck." She has long since believed that the "Lame Duck" treatment is a horrible misuse of government in the turn-around between governors.
