Ok, even assuming double jump is necessary, important and useful, it still doesn't make a game stand apart.
The argument put forth is that even "the slightest difference in game mechanics can make a different game."
Well, I maintain that if you want a game to be different, it has to be different in a lot of respects. Making a small change in game mechanics doesn't change anything except...well, the game mechanics. It won't make something different enough to avoid being called a "clone."
If you took Call of Duty 4 and added double jump, and made it super important for getting around on every map, and you had to be a double jump master to do well in the game, I still wouldn't believe you if you told me it was a different game. I'd just call it CoD4 with Double Jump.
