So, I would suggest waiting for something like A.V.A. For the moment you're not going to really find what you're looking for. Quake Live is meh, at best. I was never a fan of Quake 3 Tournament, though.

A.V.A is probably going to be your best option once it's hosted. I think Ijji was the one getting it. Not sure about that, though. As for anything else you're looking to try. If you already own a Source game, I could recommend one of the Source Mods. Maybe Insurgency, or NeoTokyo. Both are pretty good games.
