Aion does absolutely nothing special.
The classes from Aion are included in just about every mmorpg out there.
CoX has flying, EVERYWHERE.
Factions wars are also parts of pretty much every mmorpg, so are sieges.
"customization" and nice graphics also don't deserve a mention because they are one of those generic asian mmo graphics.
"gathering and crafting skills" are pathetic and you can find a better system even in WAR, whose job wasn't to create a crafting environment/features.

I dont hate WoW. I played it until Burning Crusade and had fun doing so. In the end thats what games should do, giving me fun and entertainment. And if I do some kill quest the 100th time, as long as Im not bored, so be it.
On the other hand I mistrust advertisment which claims to do something revolutionary. Too often its just some speechbubble with no substance. I still remember AoCs "revolutionary" combat system. Me and a friend had some good laugh after experiencing this button-mashing fiasco (they streamlined it later on). WAR promised "WAR everywhere", well, not really.
So if Aion ist just some other upgraded WoW clone, I dont care. I play CAion and so far there isnt much I can complain about. I try to reach high level to judge about endgame qualities of the game, but what I see so far is good enough to buy the game. If it sucks later, NCSoft will loose my sub. Very easy solution.
Maybe my expectations are too low after experiencing all those half finished products, the companies throw at the customers.
The classes are standards as in most mmorpgs, I agree. There was flying even before CoX. L2 should be one of the first titles with massive online 3D faction and siege warfare. Customization of my toon is important for me and nice graphics are one of the BIG sellpoints for this genre and Aion is very good. Not as amazing as AoC with gamegraphics, but still... Gathering and crafting is pretty standart too, no clue where the problem here is and why WAR is better.
Anyway, the beta weekends should give at least an early impression of the game and should make the choice, if the game is worth the initial payment easy.
