Fortunately, I never experienced anything that's worth mentioning. If my parents came to me upset, I usually knew why, and talked it out.
And BadPCGuy is right--you could've handled the 'Drunk Mother' scenario -alot- better (read: mature) than dumping water on her. 
You mentioned confronting the problem, that's right, but, in my opinion, engaging in dialouge in a not-so-dramatic manner would be way more beneficial to both yourself, and your mother...not engaging in things like just ignoring her, and locking doors...
I -assume- you've tried, but based from what you've typed, it doesn't seem like it.
Locking doors / Ignoring doesn't equal "Win" in my opinion.
