Well I view all religions as being equally valid when it comes to proof. None of them have empirical evidence.

I had a long discussion about religion with my step father a while back who is a very intelligent man. He is a Catholic and was raised one.

Now I may have mistakes when starting a discussion like this in the past but the easiest way to make less errors is to always ask what that person directly believes. Everyone no matter even if they have the same religion will believe a little differently than the next person.

This is where I find some light in people. I can see that people whether they agree or not have their own moral bias and you can easily see this when they cherry pick through things.

But back to what I was saying....

I was talking to my step father about what I found (in my opinion) to be illogical in his religion. We had a lot of disagreements on the issue but the conclusion I got from him is that there is no empirical evidence for religion and it takes faith to believe in it.

I was going to argue about how important empirical evidence is but I let that drop.

My stance is of course Atheist, but I am willing to admit I don't know if there is a god or not. I am also willing to have a discussion with someone about their beliefs because I like to learn more about why people belief in certain things. I also like to know of the real history behind the creation of some religions. It really brings it together like a puzzle for me.

The biggest problem I see when people are arguing back and forth about religion is that they don't state their beliefs first. This leads to a bunch of assumptions because that is all the people can do when they are given nothing to work with. I see so many people jumping back and forth without even having something concrete to argue about.

The reason arguments on religion will go on and on is because most people aren't making any constructive criticisms. People just jump from one thing to the next.

It would be easier if it was more like this.

a)I believe Jesus truly existed and performed everything in the bible, because......(support for argument).

b)I don't believe Jesus ever existed because...... (support for argument)

Instead it is like.

a)Jesus definitely existed and the bible proves it!

b)Your stupid Jesus never existed

And then it just launches from one topic to the next without ever coming to a conclusion. Now when I say coming to a conclusion I don't mean that both people are in agreement but they reach an understanding.
