If you honestly think the game is extremely well balanced, then you haven't played the game. It isn't balanced in the slightest. The M41 is the only gun worth using until the final tier of guns. And yes, Assault is overpowered. The invisibility that Recon gets is nullified by motion vision, and thermal vision is just motion vision-lite.
