in combat you cloak and shift jump, they might see you but their reactions arent going to be fast. shift jump near but across them and spray them then jump back to a hiding spot... sorta like an assassin but no way a "support"
support is more like someone holding the ghost

Recon is the epitome of the term "support". What does Recon abbreviate? Reconnaissance. It means to gather intel, and provide tactical "support" to your team. We're not assassins. We're the "spies" of NeoTokyo. We're meant to move quietly behind enemy lines to set up things like an ambush or to inform our team as to where ghost carriers and the likes are inside each map. Gee, sounds more and more like a SUPPORT role to me. Yes, they're also great Ghost runners. They're speed and stealth is their defense. Used properly in conjunction with their weaponry and recon-specific areas, they can be devestating.
Now, this can be confusing, I know. The game already has a class called Support. The difference is, the Support class is more like the frontlines guy. He's the one there to take damage for your team. Yes, he's powerful, but he's also a tank. He's meant to be able to take damage while dishing it out in return. He's also unable to get away from a fight. He has no speed, no cloak, just his health and weaponry.
Assault are the middle-line attackers. They're meant to keep a minimal distance from your supports while providing blanket fire and taking care of what's left that break through your frontline.
Used together in proper conjunction the three classes can make a pretty inpenetrable wall used to cover your ghost carrier. Recons travel the tunnels to pick off, and/or sabotage, the enemy team while your supports and assaults form a barricade around your ghost.
The game is rarely played in such a manner, but I do believe that would be an optimal setting for a pretty unstoppable defense/offense. Each class has their roles. Each one performs their roles amazingly when used properly.
