Well if you want to get technical, they can, if the book is written on teaching you how to write. Otherwise no they don't but if you're asked to write an essay about a topic inside a novel you read, you're going to be able to absorb whats in a book, and comprehend it thoroughly.(have you noticed that students in primary school read easier novels and write easier essay topics?) Anyway, the whole idea of it is that you don't stop doing it in primary school.

I was comparing books to comics, and I was pointing out one of the pros of books over comics.
