Hi!
I've found this forum recently. I've got some experience with coding but I've never written anything like online app/game (maybe simple irc but it's quite different thing). Coming back to the topic, I'm thinking of using SQL as a database for items, characters, mobs and others stuff. My problem is that I don't know how the communication between clients and server should look like (real-time). How to divide jobs between clients and server? Which variables should be stored on the server/client side? I just don't want to invent something what has been done ![]() Thanks for any links, advice, tutorials - whatever

Crumbly, but Good

Hey; welcome to the forum!
This is a fairly complex question, with no straight answers; there's always alternatives. I'd suggest you check out an open-source MMORPG (like this one), and see how they do it; you're right in that you probably shouldn't bother reinventing the wheel. Also; note that we have a development subforum for stuff like this. Feel free to stop by!
