Hey guys. so I'm trying to make an mmorpg, and I've written down some questions I'm going to need to look into to help with the world creation. Nothing to do with programming or rpg mechanics, but vital in terms of creating a living, realistic world (circa early Middle Ages, Europe I suppose).

I'd appreciate it/rep you if you could explain to me or link me to stuff that explains any of the following.

I apologize if some of these are dumb questions. I am just a city kid who daydreamed during geography and science classes

BEAR IN MIND THAT ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS APPLY ONLY TO MEDIEVAL TIMES, I DON'T CARE ABOUT HOW THESE THINGS ARE DONE IN MODERN TIMES

1) the science of why deposits of natural resources end up where they do. ie. iron, types of stone, kinds of trees.

2) what is involved in making parchment

3) What is involved in making cheese

4) What is involved in making ink

5) What is involved in making candles

6) What is involved in making lamp oil

7) What is involved in making steel?

8) How does farming work? Like, grow cycles. I know not all plants take the entire summer to grow. Why then is there such a huge harvest in autumn? How many harvests would they have had per year

9) How do seeds work. I know they come from plants, obviously, but how do they store the seeds for the plants to be uh, planted next year?

10) What is involved in making beer. no, really

11) What is involved in making wine.

12) Clothing. What materials would people have used, and how would they have gotten them. What did people even wear during the middle ages.

13) What is involved in making bows

14) What is involved in making a voilin, lute or flute.

15) What is involved in Movable Type Printing

16) What is involved in making glass

17) What is involved in making waterskins

18) What is involved in making trail rations

19) Please explain to me the scientific reasoning behind why certain kinds of soil end up at certain places.

20) Where are wild sheep found

21) Where are wild cows found

22) How do medieval grain mills work

23) If medieval parchment required some variant on the paper mill, how did those work

24) How did medieval quarries work

25) All the information you can give me on various styles of sword fighting, both Eastern and Western would be very welcome.

If you have to ask this stuff without doing the research yourself with something simple as Google, don't even try making a mmo or most likely a lolplayerworld crap game.

because trying to save a tiny bit of time by asking people who might know quite a bit about what I'm asking about obviously means that I'm actually too stupid to do the research myself

and if it was some half-assed... lolplayerworld? whatever that means... do you think I would even need to do all this research in the first place?

so far the dwarf fortress wiki is proving really helpful, anyway. the game designers obviously did a ton of research on geology

This is incredibly useful. One thing I found interesting was that parrying (holding up the blade to block an attack) was never actually done, even though it's done in virtually every movie sword fight.
