let's ignore the fact that this is real life and not Modern Warfare where you are a 1-man army and can take multiple bullet hits.

even with modern weapons, can a normal person or soldier take on 30 talibans all attacking at once, kill them all/drive the rest away, and not receive 1 SINGLE wound?

They have tons of weapons caches from the war vs the soviets. Wouldn't call that "WWI"

I wouldn't say he out gunned them, He just layed down a curtain of bullets good enough to keep them back, he obviously was in a elevated position which gave him the advantage.
I say this because i he hit one of the taliban who was climbing to his position, which gives good reasoning, good thing they didnt have alot of RPGs.
