Since i didn't get any reply's on another forum......guess ill ask here so someone can help me decide.
Can't decide on if i should get a 2gb version of the 6950s or just get a 1gb version..... or maybe go with something from Nvidia, but i haven't had one of their gpus in a long *** time. I know some of the 2gb versions of 6950s can be unlocked to 6970s, but that's not entirely why i was thinking about going with a 2gb version. I just can't decide on which would be more worthwhile or if the extra price on the 2gb version are worth it. I'm using a 1600x900 monitor for now, and will most likely hook it up to my big screen off and on(1080p). Actually had a 6870 for my build when i built it about 2weeks or so ago, but it was DOA and so i just got a full refund and decided on getting something better since i had the extra money. |

I think the 1GB will be more than enough, especially at that resolution. I don't think the unlockable 6950s are for sale anymore, so it would be difficult to find one.
Two useful links for you: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...6670,2935.html |

I have a pretty high-res dualscreen setup (1920*1080 and 1680*1050) running both from a single GTX285 1GB and I don't have any troubles. (RAM and processing power wise anyways)
The 1GB one will suffice. If you're going to get the 2GB one, I'd recommend to get a HD6970, since it's not that much more either.

As I said before, the 1GB version will do just fine. By the time it really reaches the memory cap we'll be 2-3 generations further anyways.

1 gb is perfect for gaming; I leave rivatuner running to monitor how much memory i use personally. at 1920 x 1080, every game i usually play maxed, i rarely go above 800 mbs. My GPU has 1.2 gigs i believe.
so yes, 1 gig is perfect bro. |
