get a 27" or 28" 1080p with led backlight on a hdmi connection (dvi works better). Anything higher than 28" with 1080p will look awful unless you position it far away.
I'm using a Asus 27" 1080p one for a bit over $300 on neweggs. LED backlight is important, without the led backlight your screen looks just plain awful, especially videos. Make sure that your computer and monitor both support dvi (better for rapid movements since your monitor needs to process hdmi), I'm not sure how hdmi to dvi cables fair. I am using hdmi cables myself, it seems to be working pretty well. Last edited by arcainic; 06-20-2011 at 11:04 AM. |

Most monitors generally don't affect games and player performance anymore.
You'd better visit a real store as you can see the colours of the screens on it. You might want to note down which ones they have and look at a few reviews. Reaction time should be 2 or 5ms (not that you're able to see the difference). 100hz would be a good idea for future proofing, in case you might look at 3D later on. Size should be 22" at least. Full HD (1920*1080) is a must (otherwise you're just wasting money). Don't ditch your old monitor for a dualscreen setup if your desk allows it. Put the gaming screen on the right, otherwise lower resolutions will push the remaining pixels on the other screen making it useless. HDMI and DVI are the same looking at visual output. The only difference is that HDMI also transfers sound. Screens more often that not support both DVI and HDMI today. Most of them even still have an AGP port.

No need for a 27". I recently bought a screen myself, and when I was looking for screens, everything above the 23" had a resolution of 1920x1080. Something with 2ms and 1080p should be good enough.

It's classified as a TV, thus skip.
