So, this is an odd place to ask but its..Kinda the best place I guess.
If one were to go about getting into making Montages of ANYTHING, Puppies, basketball, gaming, anime what have you...What do you think one could do to differentiate themself from others? What makes a good montage, or compilation of tape to you ? Specifically for me, it'll be gameplay footage but I want to get into this kind of thing-so .A story to it ? Amazing footage ? Good edditing ? A match with the song ? Do you like slower music faster music ? Is there specific effects you HATE ? etc. I'm literally just starting and getting clips together so I'm just trying to build a good foundation right now. |

what gets alot of views is that annoyng "let the bodies hit the floor" song, but whats great is if you get a song with a lot of high points, probably strong base or snare, and sync the best parts of the montage with these high points. if it does this very consistantly it makes it even better. Pick an original, but good song people never hear. Samurai Champloo - battle by gangstar is probably the best one ive seen
what i hate SO MUCH is just a song in the background and random stuff full of shitty slowmo's or when you just throw in random effects for no reason, like if every kill haas to have a different effect |

If it's a montage then I generally don't like music to play during them, especially screamo (which is ironic). I prefer more of an upbeat song that goes will with the gameplay. I also like having it so I can still hear the sound effects of the game while listening if there was a song playing.
Too many effects ruin the video, generally I prefer there to be little to no editing at all. Simple things work well, just knowing when to put in a clip, repeating or slowing down does wonders. Anything flashy is too much for me. Clips can't be too long unless it's REALLY epic or to give a "story" to the clip to make it better. TL;DR No overpowering music, don't spam effects, make what you show in clips count for something. Try to have a central theme, not too random. I haven't watched too many AMV's but the ones I've seen and liked usually have a timeline of sorts. It shows the main character from the beginning and as the clips go on so does his experience.
