I like to consider myself an intelligent person. I'm certainly no genius, but I believe I'm smarter than the average bear.
I know people who are a lot more intelligent than I am, and I know people who are a LOT dumber than I am. I can't help but sometimes wonder if the ability to think and reason is actually our greatest downfall. A person with the ability to read and write, do basic math, etc. isn't what I'm talking about. I consider those things very basic life skills. I'm talking about people (like myself) who think too hard about things. Anyone who knows anything about our universe around us knows just how small and insignificant we are. 90% of the time, I find our significance in that same insignificance if that makes any sense at all. Its amazing to think about how little our lives mean to most people, and how much they mean to us...see what I mean? That other 10%, I can't help but feeling extremely lonely. Not so much lonely in my life - I have many friends and a family I care about. I mean lonely in my existence. Lonely in OUR existence if you will. Which brings me to my point - since ignorance truly seems to be bliss - would you rather be happy and ignorant, or confused and intelligent? |

I'd rather be intelligent enough to not be confused.
I think people often make the massive mistake of equating thinking to intelligence and intelligence to thinking. It's quite possible to be a deep thinker and yet be dumber than a rock. You can have enough wisdom to fill an ocean, yet not know how to do division. You can also know how to solve the most complex mathematical equations, but not know a lick about life nor have any "wisdom" or common-sense. I also think that people get so caught up in worrying (worrying is NOT thinking) that they get very, very confused about themselves and the world. They cause themselves extreme amounts of anxiety and end up harming themselves and others by over-worrying about things and coming to conclusions that just aren't right or true. (Something doesn't have to be true to be right, also.) But, it isn't as simple as realizing that you're harming yourself by over-worrying to get over it and right yourself. You usually just end up digging yourself into a deeper rut. My point: Don't put so much worth into "Intelligence" or "IQ". Don't worry so much. Realize that there are billions of people currently on this Earth, and countless more who were once here. Thousands or millions who have gone through the same trouble, and millions more who have gone through a lot worse. You only get one life, use it how you want, don't let others decide for you.

Well if you were ignorantly stupid you wouldn't notice / care if you were intelligent or not. But if you were intelligent, wouldn't you be more likely ignorant towards lesser minds?
Not to bash religion but would confused be linked somewhat with religion. But at the end of the day would you rather pick wanting the truth? Or not giving a sh!t? To me I'd rather be intelligent imo. |

There are different categories of intelligence; Such as wisdom.
I'd rather be wise though, infact I am in some cases. I teach my peers a lot. I think thats why i am such a people's person because of how relevant i can be with others. I would say its a blessing. Not many people are truly gifted with intelligence or wisdom. but every gift has its curse. |

I wouldnt think of myself as a smart or dumb living being. I do however know some people that arent too bright or have infact an intellectual disability. And these person seem very happy with their life. Nobody will ever hurt them with only words and they are positive about everything they do in our lives. Now I dont say intellectual people are faster hurt or anything. But they are however way more serious and will probably understand more what is going on in their life and might even get a problem with that. But every person is different to deal with that. I have no idea which I rather be, but I am currently quite happy with my life even though it's not the perfect life you could wish for.

I've asked myself this exact question often. Wondering if I'd be better off being another cog in society and not thinking about everything so deeply as I do. I'd probably have more friends, have a great job, and live an overall fulfilling life at the price of being ignorant of the real world around me. I think I would actually prefer a life like that. In the end, what does my way of thinking bring me besides self satisfaction and misery? That is something I think I would trade to be a part of the world rather than a skeptic of it.

Intelligence is a blessing. IMO.
Intelligence is needed to do things, which those who have less are doomed to a life of being outcasted as being rejects. However in this way, you can view it as a curse. Being in the middle seems the best to me, too much intelligence means I have a lot of thinking to do and having too low would impair my understanding of basic concepts of life.

Someone is only smart if he puts effort into something. Something like IQ's only shows how fast you learn something. So even if you would learn faster then a dumb person, if he puts effort into something, while you do nothing at all, he'll be much more 'intelligent' then you are.
I wouldn't consider myself intelligent at all. I'm the type of person that's able to learn anything he wants, so I'm actually bored after a while. In the beginning I throw in a lot of effort, but after a few months it get's to easy and I stop with the effort. So I learn nothing new, and get stuck at the point where I ended and move to the next thing that keeps be busy for a while. |
