Default Scarlet Legacy Review.

First, a little about me.
I have over 10 years of MMO experience. I enjoy games with a grind. I often go CBT hunting. I like to be the first to max level. I don't usually care for the story. This is my first review of a game, so please, bare with me if I come off as a fanboi, I'm working on it! ^_^

Now, a little about the game.
It's been in testing in Taiwan for a little over a year now I believe. It's a Martial Arts based MMO, with a storyline revolving around rescuing a beautiful princess.

Audio
To start things off, I have to say that I love the soundtrack. I feel that the choice of music fit perfectly with the look and feel of the game. The battle music was awesome, it really got you in the mood. I do have to say that the emotes had some annoying sound effects. Like when the female character laughs/cries for 5+ minutes. It gets on my nerves.

Audio: 6/10

Visual
I think the graphics are great. They are top tier for an F2P. Personally I prefer the look of F2P games over others such as WoW. I never had graphic errors, the game ran really smooth. I love the skills. They are flashy without adding massive amounts of particle effects. Martial arts maneuvers FTW.

Visual: 7/10 I added 1 because I was bribed with my statue in the main city

Story
I'm not usually one for story. I usually don't read quest and don't pay attention. But this game sucked me in. It really makes it hard to wait for OBT. Imagine, if you will, reading a really good book. You are half way through. Suddenly your brother/sister rip the book from your hands and lock the door to their room so that they can read it. You REALLY want to read the rest of the book and can't wait till mom/dad get home so you can get the book back from your brother/sister.
The storyline itself is generic. But, The way they deliver it is what sets it apart. There is a mirror in the top right of your screen that flashes every so often. Upon clicking it, a princess comes out and either talks to you directly, or you get to watch her talking with other people. As you progress through the game and complete instances, the story progresses. The last part of the story in CBT, was the main hero(you) saving her. She then returns to her palace, but with a dismayed look on her face. It's the cliffhanger in the story, go figure, right? Well, I will set aside my fanboism thanks to the guidance of another.

Story: 6/10 It has to have the best delivered story of any MMO to date.

Pet System
At first, I didn't think much of the pet system. But then I came to find that there are over 250+ different pets, which can all be upgraded 4 times. Each pet also has different bonuses, such as +40 to hp. +3% to regeneration, to it's own stats, as well as yours. Finding pets of the same type upgrades these bonuses. There's even a way to increase your pets size.

Pet System: 5/10

Player Versus Environment
Level 1-20 may have been a little bit fast, but the game level'd out quickly and got into a good pace. I enjoyed the PvE greatly, the Assassin handled really well, I dodged and critted a little less than I would expect, but it worked. I never had problems with boss quests.
There is a bot system in place, it's actually rather customizable. You can choose just to have it automatically use potions for you while you control the fight yourself, or you could have it control everything and go have dinner with the family, or go to sleep, and not fall behind too much.
The instances were a lot of fun and had the right amount of difficulty involved.
In the first Instance, which you can access at level 17, the first boss uses a bunch of forward wave attacks that you needed to avoid. Here's a boss of the level 27 dungeon. Not going to spoil any more of that, you'll have to come see for yourself. :P

Player Versus Environment: 6/10 Because I personally feel that the bot system is a plus.

Player Versus Player
Assassin point of view.

PvP in general was very fluid and active, there was no standing still and attacking your opponent hoping you'd kill him faster than he would kill you. You can move around while attacking, and casting spells. You can even use your jump/double jump in combat. There's plenty of buildings to take advantage of to get away from or closer to your opponent, so you can use the terrain to your advantage. I was unfortunately unable to test Guild VS Guild as it was not implemented into the game yet.

Warriors are a fair fight. They can be tough initially with their charge that has a 3 second stun, they do have to be wary of trying to dash people on the edge of buildings, as it will promptly drop you back to the ground. I expect to end fights with warriors at > 30% HP

Mystics are a challenge. They have 3 crowd control effects, which makes it hard to get close to them. My only saving grace was that spell could be dodged the same as normal attacks! A well played mystic can keep you from ever getting close with proper use of the terrain. Mystics are currently the ruling force in PVP. I expect to end fights with mystics at < 10% HP.

Monks are a challenge. High health coupled with heal over time makes for a heck of a challenge. If that wasn't enough they have a skill that reflects physical attacks back at the attacker. This = instant death, you have to watch out for the visual and keep your distance until it ends. If you are alive afterwards it will be a close fight. I expect to end fights at < 10% HP.

Player Versus Player: 6/10 Because it could use a little balancing. But still very enjoyable.

Assassin: 5/10 Because I want more dodge/critical, but I expect when we get to higher levels and can mod our equipment more it will be possible.

Mount System
Where to start. In CBT we were given access to several different mounts, I had a horse, Cannibals holding me tied to a stick, and my backside being on fire. Crazy, I know right? But I enjoyed all the silly mounts. There were also a ton of cool ones. The Gm's showed off a bunch of them and gave free cabrides on some, like the Dragon Tortoise and Ogre. At one point they were even riding a Giant Pink Bunny, and a Scooter

Mount System: 5/10

Fashion
This is really similar to the mount system. There are a ton of different fashion sets, so you are bound to find a few that you like. ^_^

Fashion: 5/10

Community
There are a ton of great features for keeping in touch with your friends. If you group with your friends for so long you get bonuses. You can have 3 lovers, and even get married to one, both with respective bonuses. The guild system was the same you will see in any other. But, where this game truly shines is the players and staff. They have the BEST Gm's I have ever encountered, they are friendly and respond really quickly to any and all problems. The players are all really friendly and helpful as well. So if you are looking for an amazing community this is the place for you. Trolls beware!!

Community: 8/10 I cannot stress this enough, everyone is awesome!!!

Overall Game
It was fun. But, until we get to see the rest of the game there's not much to say about it, but so far its hit all the bases of your average MMO. For only having access to a fifth of the total content, I have high hopes for it, and I will be back for OBT(August 18th 11:00 A.M PDT) and will stay long after release. I will be recommending it to my friends. And anyone interested in MMO's in general. Give it a try at http://scarletlegacy.gamescampus.com/
Overall Game: 6/10
