Ive also had some good times in some other asian grinding style games like 9d, atlantica, silkroad, but even then I never really found them "hard" but there was some good struggles to be had in those games.. One of the only MMO's to do some stuff different and add some difficulty I would say is Age of Conan.. I bought it when it launched played it up to about lvl 71 but the game was unfinished, there was no new zone at the time or any rewards for anything but still it was a nice very open pvp grind where you could potentialy die. I thought about re-trying conan since its f2p and has more content but I honestly dont want to play any mmo's for now. |

Have you ever tried Entropia Universe?
It is small enough to get the 'community feel' to it. Is very challenging to play and impossible to master. (If it was easy I would have quit my first day and I'm going on 3+ years now) It is defiantly different than your typical 'WOW Game clone' so you will have a steep learning curve but it is more than worth it in my opinion. narfi |

Any idiot (no offense) can play your typical game regardless of how much thought or energy they put into it. But in Entropia Universe the RCE (real cash economy) drives the competition levels very high. While it certainly is possible to play for free by earning your own way in the game (I played my first 6 months without a deposit) I recomend treating it like a typical subscription game where you pay your 50$ to start and then put in your 10-30$ a month for progressing at a faster rate than you could without. It is all about how you approach the game, and will require an entirely new mindset. You will love it or hate it, (or both ;P ) everyone does. For a free intro to the game, I would recommend starting on Rocktropia and doing the beginner missions there at New Harlem and then going to "The Arctic" to do the "Hunt The Thing" themed missions. These missions just came out and can be played all the way through without any money. Based on the upcomming prequil "The Thing" (theaters oct 14th) of John Carpenters movie with the same name, these themed missions and locations are showing where the future of Entropia is headed, and is alot of fun to play through. narfi ps. Ill try to find a couple of videos/articles I can link you to in a few minutes. Ok here are a couple of videos. (anything put out by this youtube user are really well done)
There is my blog CashPlanets.com not sure what else to tell you about it without coming on too strong as a fan boy (too late already I'm sure :P ) Play like a typical mmo and you will do poorly. Treat it like an extremely complex economics simulator wrapped up to look like a beautiful mmo using the Crytek Cryengine 2 (same one as Crysis uses) and you will do well and have fun for years to come. IMHO, the OP only applies to console games. MMOs were never engaging in terms of difficulty. Their appeal comes from the fact that anyone can log in and play together. If you're looking for rock solid difficulty in a game, the MMO market wasn't even the right place to start. |

I do however think there were some challenging mmos back in the day never quite the same as some single player console stuff but def some challenges. Its a different genre and a different set of challenges but it has gone the same was as console games as the guy in the video says in his own special way lol. Thanks for the post though enjoyd the vid. |

It is a challenge for me, and I love it. It has kept me in game every singe day for over 3 years with the only days missed because of being away from home or tech issues. If it was easy I wouldn't be playing. I love the challenge of the need to always be adapting strategies and not becoming a mindless zombie clicking just for the sake of clicking. As for keeping poor people out... Well that is the thing... For someone from a first world country the cost is not that great. For someone from a 3rd world country there is enough profit potential to support a family. This game has people from all ranges of geographical and economical backgrounds, playing for a variate of reasons, but it is the economy in the game which makes it unique and (imo) superior to any other game on the market. narfi Last edited by Narfi Hungry Willem; 09-28-2011 at 05:26 PM. |
