Default This is not a racist question.

Please please please don't take this the wrong way. I asked it in General to avoid any Lounge type spam that could turn into racism.

I'm not trying to be rude, I'm simply curious and asking because there tends to be a large Asian population on these forums.

In my home town, around this time of year, I can't help but notice...everyone is gone, its a tourist place. However, there are literally 10's of 20's of people who are some kind of Asian decent lined up and down the pier fishing. They aren't there for the whole summer, just this time of year.

My question is, is there some kind of specific fish that is used in a lot of different cultural foods? I'm wondering if some certain kind of fish is biting this time of year that is mainly used in different foods than are generally cooked around here?

Once again, I'm not trying to be racist. This is genuine curiosity, and I'm sorry if I haven't used any politically correct terms. I did my best to not insult anyone lol.

I'm not Asian I'm Hispanic, but I don't think there is a specific fish used in different cultural foods. There are probably favorites, but fish is fish. If it's edible, people eat it. Also, even if this was a racist comment, I doubt the Asian community on onRPG would even be offended. They're more lax about it, imo.

Black people on the other hand...

I know the Japanese have a weak for Tuna, maybe Cod as well but I'm not so sure about this.

If anyone would like me to build a rig, I'd prefer it to be in a thread in the tech section rather than PM. Thank you.

Yeah, neither of those would be in the lake. Hm, strange.

And yeah, some fish are used in certain foods over other fish. There is definitely a difference in taste from fish to fish.

i dunno, i think you may falsely be seeing a pattern that doesnt really exist. Kind a oh lets see how many asians i find, and you skip/forget [about] the 100 white people to find the 20 asians.possible solution.
I thought of that too. "Red Volkswagen Syndrome" as its called. (actually, just googled it, and I guess thats not a thing. A phrase I've used my whole life is obviously just something I made up.)

But there are literally only 20 people to even BE seen, and all of them were fishing, and all of them were Asian. It just seems so odd lol.

You really don't need a disclaimer for this, as there is nothing racist at all with asking about cultural things for knowledge.

I'm no expert, but it could easily be that they just picked this specific month or whatever time frame to go fishing, for no other reason than to go fishing. Seeing as minority cultures tend to be more closely knit than others, it really shouldn't be a big surprise if 10-20 people all got together annually for one reason or another.

Ah, ok

I figured it was some kind of specialty fish that was kinda tough to find or something.

Makes sense. I talked with one kid there the other night, he said his mom caught 5 pretty good sized fish. Thats pretty cool. I don't think I've ever fished off that pier and I live here

Edit: I see, it looks like "Black Bass" fishing has just opened up recently for keepers. Its been catch and release only for the past few months, now you can keep them. Maybe that could have something to do with it. Idono.

I guess one question would be are they local Asians, or tourists?
If they are local then your question has some validity.
If they are tourists, the proper question would be, "Why do they travel after the normal season is closed?"

If they are tourists, then it would be normal for them to fish on their vacation, it is just that they are there when others arent.

does that make sense?
