Thought it might be interesting to hear about all your pops.
My old man and my family split apart a few years ago because of his constant drinking and physical/emotional abuse. I haven't seen him in a couple years, but I talk to him on the phone occasionally. I'm really the only person in my family who can tolerate the man. He's a pretty difficult fellow to get along with. He's the most stubborn bastard you'll ever meet. He's always right, no matter what. He is pretty smart, though. He used to run a swimming pool construction company. Not entirely sure what he does now. He's real bitter and cynical, which makes me kind of nervous because I can totally see myself there. He can be pretty cool sometimes, though. He loves Jimmy Buffet, cooking, and the Coen Brothers. So what's the deal with your dads? Are they jerks or totally awesome? Or both? |

My dad's a famous doctor, at least among ophthalmologists. He specializes in reconstructive surgery, but he's also well known for pioneering using lasers in surgery. He was one of the first doctors to work with botox, restylane, and lasers, pretty much. Other doctors pay good money to attend seminars where my dad gives talks about how to do surgeries and the importance of facial reconstruction. As a dad, he was pretty distant with my other two brothers, but he and I are great friends. He's a chill guy, very rational and funny, and in his free time he mostly plays the djembe drum with an afro-cuban drum group. He used to collect meteorites (there's a few around the house), and still collects first edition books with lithograph prints. We have a signed first edition copy of the first American graphic novel in our house, and a few authentic meteorites. My dad thinks Nirvana is the greatest band on Earth, and he used to be addicted to internet trivia.
And if you met my dad on the weekend you would probably find out about none of that, except that he likes drumming. |

My dad manages a company who makes guitar parts for Fender,Taylor, and G&L. My dad hardly ever went to school, only went to school to learn how to use a program for machining, ended up passing the teacher, The Teach himself wanted to know how my father did some of his machining on it. Anyway, yea.
Hes tough,big, and smart. |

My dad's a huge bastard. He runs a very sucessful swimming pool company, millions generated each year and owns horses. And that's where the good things about him end, he's petty, cynical, racist, greedy, mean hearted, thinks he's the smartest man in the world, holds ridiculous grudges, thinks he's the most important person ever, manipulates people like puppets... I hadn't seen him since I was 8 years old, "met" the guy last Summer, even spent a couple weeks with him and he's everything my mom always told me (Didn't but I assumed) he is.
What annoyed the shit out of me is he thought he could buy me and my love, like he did when I was a kid. That old man is disgusting, i'd rather work out my own money than depend on his spare change. |
