So my router is a piece of shit. It breaks all the time and I have to go unplug and replug it. Today something was up with the actual cable line though and not the router.

So I unplugged my modem, replugged it, waited for the internet to come back up and reset my router. This is MY router btw, not provided by the cable company.

So I turn my PC on, and notice the only network available is "linksys"...but it has full bars, so I know its mine (my neighbors don't have wireless). Odd. So I start it up, and I've lost all my routers forwarded ports and settings and passwords and everything. I had to rename it "home" again, and my PC now has it listed as "home2".

Whats going on here? Why did my router just get erased? I don't wanna open all the ****ing ports for torrents and games again

Why? Perhaps the cable line stuff, perhaps the reset...
All I can say is sorry mate, you'll have to redo your ports and hope it won't start again. :|

My router once got fried by an electrical surge coming from a thunderstorm.... power cables were unplugged, telephone line was not. I don't think I'll need to explain further how this relates to you. :/

I actually just heard that the whole north East of the USA lost service from Time Warner, so it musta been a huge **** up.

Not so worried anymore

If it happens again I'll be pissed, but its all good for now.
