While it is the single most important quality in an interview, it doesn't help the OP.

However, it totally is the one thing that counts. No one thinks "wow this guy will bring in a lot of competence and up our sales tons." Everyone will think "wow, this is a funny guy."

Like imagine you converse with some chick at a party and she says something and you say "wow, that totally happened to me like just a month ago, it was great" and she gives you a psycho stare and says "I was still talking and when I am talking, you should really not interrupt me."
The only thing that went through my head for that moment was that I
A) Didn't give a damn, because she wasn't telling anything interesting and my hope was that she would move along with the topic.
Felt sorry for the fact that in this world she will always be unhappy, because she won't get the great, important powerful job she thinks she deserves.

If you are not 100% focused on making the social components of the workplace work out, you will be one single ongoing problem and the hiring department knows that.
If you are only 30% focused on doing your job well, but a great guy, you will score any job over an *** who is 100% focused on the work, but will tell you that randomly giving shit to people who work under you is ok.
Either that or the company will selfcombust.
