So i received an honorable discharge from active duty about a month and a half ago and i came back into the civilian world thinking finding a job as a veteran would be easy. Well, its not. 1.5 months later and im still looking. Im not even getting calls from walmart and other large companies.
I've tried temp-to-hire places, word of mouth, everything. I've even just started walking into random stores/businesses trying to get a job with no luck. Im really starting to get depressed here(which is why i was kicked out of the military in the first place). Im afraid ill have to end up selling my car because soon i just wont be able to afford it. But thats it, time to go back to applying.

If being out of work for one and a half months is getting you this down then I have some bad news for you..........
I know people who have had trouble finding a job for TWO YEARS, some of which are even university graduates or have been college. The best advice i can give is just to not let it eat at you dude, i never let it get to me and i just kept looking and trying and i got a job. Stay positive, negativity produces negative outcomes.

Go back the next day and ask to speak with the manager, and give them the application and ask if they have any questions about it. Each week go back and ask to see the manager and say "I turned in an application a couple weeks ago and was wondering if you had any openings yet" Do this for a couple dozzen fast food/wallmart/grocery store/etc... type places (dont be proud) and in a month or two you will surely get hired. The key is showing that you are persistent and care. (of course make sure you look presentable when you go each time, as though you were ready for work right now) Once you have the job, then you can relax a little and start applying to jobs you would actually like a little better. With a good work ethic and personal hygene you can do well in any of those places once you get hired. Its just a matter of getting your toe in, and not being to proud to do the minimum wage labor while your looking for your next big break. narfi |
