Ok here's the deal , I have my video card is a Radeon HD 6800 series , when I check on dxdiag it's currently using 731MB , but I know my card can use 1GB , I will need it for skyrim , how can I use it to it's full potential?? Thanks!

Nothing wrong here.
Nothing wrong here. Now this here is wrong. It should be total memory clock. You have nothing to worry about except for your terminology. You're technically fine for Skyrim.

When I check the requirement specs on canyourunit.com , I don't pass for the recommenced only because of this , I pass for everything except the 1gb video card thingy..
Edit: This is what it says: Required You Have Video RAM 1 GB 731.8 MB Last edited by AkaSnake; 11-03-2011 at 04:57 PM. |

I have a weaker PC than you and yet I pass.
I wonder why? Maybe it's called CanYouRunIt. Maybe it's DxDiag incorrectly reading your GPU stats. Maybe it's both. Either way, you have 1GB of memory on your card. GPU-Z should've told you that. If it hasn't, return it as you've gotten a damaged/bad card.

It should be able to handle it without serious problems.
I've deducted it was a 6850 anyway by looking at the core speed. The 6870 runs at 900mhz. I guess you didn't really get my previous post to be honest. :/

Yea I didn't really get it.
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/716/cardq.gif/ Here , the memory size is at 1024mb ( we're good here ) , why is the gpu clock at 775 mhz and same for the default clock? And on dxdiag the memory is still at 731 MB :/ ( But it does say approx. total memory ) Thanks snow! I'll try my best to understand your next reply

I can't blame you for it. Internet lacks the intonation that should've gone with that post. :/
Well, DxDiag only tend to say the series and approx memory. It usually is no where near accurate on memory. It's only useful if you have an nVidia card and want to know which one you have. ATI just says the series so it stops there. It shows that I have 2.7GB on my card. I guess it's caused by me running a dualmonitor setup though I cannot confirm. Canyourunit basically bases performance on stuff thats CPU-Z let you show. It lacks a human brain and thus if something's read incorrectly, it just says you can't run it (decently), while you probably and most likely even can run it flawlessly. eg if DxDiag reads 1022mb of RAM on your GPU and the game requires 1024MB.... it doesn't pass on CYRI. -.- Clocks/MHz just indicate the processing speed. Nowadays it's pretty useless in determining actual performance, as the chip architecture plays a pretty dominant role in it. Hence 'gaming' (high-end cards), 'multimedia' (mid-end cards) and 'graphic development/office' cards (quadro/firegl and low end respectively). Higher clock speed still gives you better performance, but it usually will not give it enough power to beat the next generation on the same spot on the hierachy. (eg OC gtx460 vs gtx560)
