Default limited or no connectivity issue

Okay well my main computer got some pretty nasty malware which I used combofix to remove and it removed and repaired everything (or so i thought).

My network connection seems to be on the fritz for good (thinking of just re-installing the OS but was wondering can i do that without having to re-download the 23 gigs of school work and games? My schools internet sucks balls top speed is 235kb's on a good day..)

So far I have tried resetting the winsock, renewing the ip, power cycling the router, reinstalling the drivers, and system restoring. I am not very technical when it comes to computers so I am hopping there is something I have missed?

Also for some reason my winsock keeps resetting it self back to the corrupted version after I reset it and reboot. Could there still be malware and the likes in my system? I mean combo fix is a pretty nasty program so im sure it would of destroyed it?

Thanks for any ideas or inputs

I hope that helps.

If it doesn't... well. Format would be the quickest option. ><
Networking often can and will be a ***** to get it back working.

If you want to scan before you format, download Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and an antivirus, such as Eset, Kaspersky, Trend Micro or Avast. Trial will be good enough to catch them.

Yes. Burn to DVD, move to USB-device (usb stick, external hdd etc...) or create a new partition and move it there.

Not really needed, but HIGHLY recommended.

I recommend you make 3 partitions on your HDD if you format. (assuming Win7 or Vista, XP is too hard for that and that your HDD is big enough)
Click advanced options when the setup asks which HDD you want to use for win7 and downsize it till you have about 100GB.
Put the rest in one for games/movies and another one for school stuff.

Use the 100GB ones for Windows, drivers and stuff that wouldn't work well after a format, such as virusscanners. Games, movies, music, school stuff go on the other partitions.

I feel like I'm overdoing this. lol

Ah thanks I was unaware of a winsock2 file prehaps this is interfering with my winsock attempts so ill track both files down and delete the winsock2 and reset the winsock and see if that corrects the issue if not oh well been a while sense I last reformated and if I do it tonight while im still at home house sitting I can re-downlooad everything over night.

Thanks for the tip
