The worth on runes has gone down the drain since Factions though. Monk Runes are about 3k~4k a pop, Sup Absorption is no longer the 60~100k trophy of wealth it used to be...

Money's real easy to make on Factions (ask in town and hundreds of people will tell you where to make good gold), Prophecies players are probably stuck farming ectoplasm and shards/UW chest runs for money.

Get a good party if your not a warrior/monk and go on to hydras,trolls.

Any way, I had a pretty good method for a while. I made a mental note of the general locations of all the hidden stashes, when I got something good I'd go back into town and sell it. Also, buy low, sell high. It worked for me. I got 120 plat in about 2 months.
