Default Building a New Computer

Hi, I need help on finding parts and building a new computer.
I have a budget of around $900. I will mostly play video games on it. My goal is to run Diablo III and The Witcher 2 smoothly. I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse etc.

I was thinking of just buying a pre-built one, but I want to try building a new one. I don't have a lot of experience in building computers, and I did buy wrong components for the computer before. (specifically ram)

Thanks in advance!

edit* my monitor is DVI-D

With HDD prices this high up... you'd be looking at 300-350 for an intel 2500k and a 1TB HDD. :|

That being said... I left out the DVD (easily salvageable and cheap, bout 20USDish) and HDD (250% increase in price? guess why I left it out).
It should add up to about 900USD with a 'normal priced' 1TB HDD and the 2500k.

I've got a build but my brains told me to pick my case of preference. -.-

I could swap the case if you want and get a better GPU, but the GTX560Ti should have no problems with this setup at 1080p. Certainly not at 1680*1050.

Thanks!
I am so glad you posted right away T_T <--- tears of joy.

Well, I'm not looking to run 1080p, but I do want 1680x1050. Also I can probably just get a 500GB HDD, I have a bunch of external HDD for storage anyway.

My monitor does not have any HDMI ports that's why

Also do you recommend AMD cpus?

AMD's Bulldozer top CPU runs between the 2500k and 2700k, selling at the price of the 2700k. I don't recommend it.

I see, well I think I might have to wait, the 2500k is sold out.
edit* here's something I tried to make

I knew I was forgetting something.... -.- (PSU)

Looks good, though if you can, I'd salvage the HDD or look for a decent cheap used one. The prices are beyond outrageous. :|

I wonder why they went up. I'm hoping I got the correct RAM this time.

edit* nvm, I'm changing the ram. I have no experience in OC at all

It'll run, but at lower speed (1600MHz instead of 1866MHz). You'll need to OC if you want it to run at 1866.

HDD prices went up due to Thailand flooding. WD's factories produce one critical part there and the factory's flooded between 2-3m/6-9ft. :|

I see, that is sad. I did try to build another one, but I don't know how well will it perform.
Also there is a lot of Sold out good stuff on Newegg, like the cheap 1TB HDDs and of course the i5-2500k.

Also how big of a performance jump from i5 to i7?

Another one that I tried:

Virtually none from i5 to i7. If hyperthreading mattered in games, you'd notice an increase, but it doesn't.
I'd skip on the AMD one.

I recommend getting at least the GTX560Ti as GPU.
Try to get 8GB of RAM if you have a bit money to spend later on.
