I'm currently apart of a very small (to put it into perspective, we have about 10 active players) game called "First Star Online Stratics Reborn"... and I'd like it, as well as others in this community, if we had more players.
I've been pondering how to go about bringing new players for sometime... and the thought occured to me... Would any other games in this kind of situation like to do an adshare? If we can get together a bunch of underground mmo's then we might be able to increase all of our player base. Is this a good idea or a bad one? |

Depending on how much time players need to play and succeed in your MMO, this might be a good/bad idea.
If it's a 5 minute a day type ordeal, then yes, go ahead with it. However if it's a full blown time sink like WoW, you'll only be encouraging your players to play else where. I guess you could do this for a while, until the player base grows to a few hundred daily, then you could possibly afford some sort of paid advertisement through donations/subs/micro transactions. I don't have a clue how much it would cost you to advertise on one of those top 100 mmo type websites, although if at all possible, that might a decent place to try. (They run a lot of ads, so I assume they'd be cheap-ish to place). *Edit: I assume this is your game "http://fsosreborn.webs.com/"? If so, I'll have a play at it *Another thing you could try would be contacting a relatively well known youtuber and try to get them to "Let's Play" your game. TotalHalibut is doing a "WTF is:..." series at the minute, that looks at Indie games, so you could try to contact him with your game if it fits. That would essentially be a 20 minute gameplay ad, viewed by possibly hundreds of thousands. *Edit 2: Just noticed on your frontpage: "This game is officially shut down due to lack of intrest by players and staff." Sorry to hear that...hope you can get it up and running again. It sounds interesting from what I've read on the website.* Last edited by Rapiidz; 12-23-2011 at 06:04 PM. |
