Like being the first to the new level cap, or first guild to finish a raid. Those are something you have to beat a lot of people to get, so why not be proud of the accomplishment?
Because most people feel the need to have their achievements rewarded with something physical for some odd reason.

Truth be told both the gaming achievements and the physical trophies are only worth what you, the recipient feel they are.

Whether others think it is a waste of time or that an actual trophy is better is irrelevant, the only thing that matters is its value to you personally.

Thats an addiction if I ever heard one. When you are doing something so much that its ****ing up your life and you can't make yourself stop, thats an addiction.
one of my old roommates dropped out of college basically cause all he did was play maplestory and ragnarok. I don't know what really happened to him, his freshman year of college he was doing fine even when he was playing games, but then our 2nd year came along and he would be up all night playing the games. I would go to the bathroom at 4am in the morning and he'd be in the living room with the lights off playing the game with the tv on. needless to say i've graduated from college and he went back to community college instead and "wants" to transfer out but he is still there. If he didn't get addicted to gaming he would've graduated the same time as me.

I don't know because I haven't been "addicted to video games" like that. I do enjoy playing but not to the same extent.

It could just have easily been the pressure and stress or something else entirely that affected your room mate, as you said he was fine even when playing video games in his freshman year, so odds are he was using video gaming as a coping mechanism for whatever else was going on.

Not to say however that it was ok or that his late night gaming sessions didn't effect him, because they clearly would have. It's just I think there is more to why he did what he did then just "video game addiction".

I can honestly say I was in High School. FFXI killed a lot of my social life for a few years outside of the game and my scores died I had to stay an extra year to finish all of my credits hahaha. The addiction is bad and I hate to say it, but it's still there and lingers from time to time.

That was pretty much what I was trying to say.

I think this might be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. If nothing tries to break the mold, the mold doesn't change.
