I own two modified M1912. I bought them cause they were unique in its design and they came as a pair.

At this moment, they are not in my possession cause my GF does not like guns. However, if they were in her home, they are safe. Since they have been modified to be fully auto, I keep them in a few pieces and locked up.

I do not care for guns, but these were an interesting part of history, and my father thought they were nice pieces to keep for collection value. Right now, he has them in a safe along with a few other "toys" he kept as souvenirs from when he was in the military.

Now, would I own a gun for use? No

I prefer collecting weapons for their uniqueness and sometimes historical value. Right now, the only functioning real weapons I have are 20 REAL swords, 15 daggers of various materials, and my dai katana (my baby). Other than that, all I have are replica firearms and melee weapons from various movies (Predator, Aliens, Starship Troopers, Star Trek next gen, and so on).

That's why they are in a few pieces.

The history and pathology of the "commando" killer does not suggest that having a gun is what made them more likely to commit such murders or that without a gun they probably wouldn't have even conceived of such actions. Although that's my interpretation of the info out there.

I'll admit that having a gun does make carrying out those kinds of acts much easier but I believe that even without a gun, the acts would've still taken place most of the time. Adolf Hitler probably owned a gun but his greatest weapon was his words.

Yet I find I agree with you. Guns are a big problem simply because of who has access to it and the relative ease it requires to acquire one.

Everyone can hold a scalpell. Everyone can cut some stuff with it. Everyone can try it out on a steak if he wants to.
Going down to that steak with it 2 times a year, doesn't qualify you to give anyone a bypass.
You can't give someone a bypass with a scalpel. At least not a scalpel alone. Most scalpels don't have blades thin enough to make those kinds of cuts and even if they did, now that you've got a chest open there's no way in hell you can use that to prevent someone from bleeding out once you start restricting blood flow to and from the heart.
In any case, in any line of work that would require you to use a scalpel you need to be trained to use it. You'd be surprised by how many people cut themselves picking it up or changing the blade or cleaning it. The blade is thin enough that if you cut yourself with it you won't even notice until you see the blood or the tear in your glove.

Unfortunately I'm inclined to believe the government sides with you and that is why we are in the predicament we're in.

This won't happen any time soon since it is arguably unconstitutional. And if it were implemented you'd probably need to renew your licensing once every two years and it'd probably cost around 200 bucks and it would force state politicians to enforce harsher laws on released felons. Think about it.

The moment a test is implemented to determine whether or not you are deemed fit and mentally sound enough to own a gun for the the purpose of protecting yourself you are saying "you don't have the right to bare arms" since clearly you wouldn't.
And then consider that if this were to take place and you did pass the exam you'd probably have your name, social security number, date of birth, etc listed in some database. Your freedom would be restricted in that when you move you'd probably have to notify someone that you did indeed pack up your gun and then re-register your name in a new area to prove you are allowed to have a gun on your premises and then should it ever be stolen and or a gun was used in your area, they'd probably call you in at their convenience to make sure it wasn't you.

At the other extreme eventually they might simply begin putting gps locator devices into some firearms. Although if anyone every suggested doing that you better vote no. That'll bring them one step closer to putting RFID chips into you.

This reminds me of that question about size. Sorry. Off topic I know.

On the other hand, if some government official did take a liking to this post or thread, they'd probably realize these forums have a lot more to offer. Just saying

With the population going up, so will crime and murders and gun accidents, or whatever you wanna say. Guns are not going away. In 10 years, millions of others will most likely obtain guns. If you're part of the group who hasn't, well thats certainly not the group who bought thems fault.

Reality is, guns are here.

Adapt to the problem. Or you can wait for the problem to fix itself. If it does.

Duno, just my opinion.

Everyone here seems to be afraid of firearms? Firearms are NOT the problem, the idiot shooting it is.

Guns can be used to cause harm, or benefit the user (i.e. food, protection.)
A steak knife can be used to cause harm, or benefit the user (i.e. cutting steak.)

What the gun and knife do is ENTIRELY up to the moron wielding it.

Guns will not go anywhere until a more effective means warfare/incapacitation becomes available. Human nature never changes; Greed and blood-lust are two consistences that always lead to strife. Peace is unattainable.
