Default Korea is dealing with the Shutdown Law just fine

Quote:
In our latest round-up of news from South Korea's online games space, we look at a reactions to the online gaming shutdown law a month after it went into effect, Chinese operators closing down their Korean games, and more.

In November, South Korea implemented a shutdown system for online games, forcing operators and platform holders to block children aged under 16 from playing online titles during a late-night six-hour block -- part of a law meant to combat online game addiction.

A month later, though, some claim the shutdown law has had little effect. "I investigated what has changed after the policy. As a result, nothing much has changed in terms of the concurrent users for both [kids and adults]," says JongDeuk Kim, who works for an unnamed developer.

A younger gamer nicknamed Maemi commented, "All of [my friends] said nothing would change because we all could still either play the online games with our parents's IDs or play other games not under the policy, such as console games or mobile games. This system is meaningless."

Cultural Society Institute researcher KiMin Yang added, "The children would eventually play games no matter how hard we try to take them away from it, and the games themselves would not die out forever. Suppressing games, however, is the right thing to do for the potential future of our children."
Games like Sudden Attack 2, Ragnarok Online, Cabal Online and FIFA Online 2 are all shutting down in China/Korea.

I guess the Shutdown Law hasn't really done anything for South Korean kids. They still continue to play games as I suspected. Still wondering don't kids have bed times?

its like porn in the us, you honestly think a teenager is going to see the "yes i am over 18" and the "no i am not" buttons, and not just say that they're over 18?

its a retarded law that will never work until they add something crazy that would require the kid to somehow actually prove they are over 18 or are who they are saying they are, and in all honesty i would rather have my kid playing/attempting to play games over night rather then going out and getting drunk, partying and having sex like i was when i was a kid.

i am a strong believer that the parent should be the person controlling their kid so the day this does (if it does) some how make it to america will be a sad sad day indeed.

At the moment I count more absentee and negligent parents in the US. This law could come to the US and it wouldn't make any difference.

KSSN.

Than it's just the parents fault for letting them know their account details or allowing them to play past midnight.

that's why i included crazy into my sentence, like requiring a blood test or something ever time they log on, getting your parents SSN isn't very hard at all, its also a code you type in there is no way to stop the kids from finding it out and then just typing it in and pressing enter which there is no doubt that they do since its hardly had any effect.

May I remind you guys to keep any forms of getting Korean only game accounts/KSSNs out of this, please?
I'll refer to identity theft if it isn't clear enough.

Not really, kids will always find ways to rebel.

BREAKING NEWS!!

Not. This was expected. When this bill was announced in April 2010, everyone already knew this is not going to work.

In other words; Government of South Korea sucks. They do.
