yes.
well, sort of. if you go back far enough, everyone was racist, more or less. But I would argue that these days, if you're from a First World Nation, you should know better. Last edited by shadowsworn; 01-07-2012 at 11:10 PM. |

Nah not really. I think racism is more a product that your influences create. No one is born racist, they are molded by their environment. Racism is ignorance. I don't think ignorance is the opposite of intelligence. Stupidity is the opposite of intelligence. You can be smart as hell and still be ignorant, in my opinion.
I think ignorance is forced upon people, to an extent, where stupidity is more or less your own fault. |

Since were so connected in this day in time, we have chances to learn about differences, and our stereotyping gets dwindled and discarded easier than 60 years ago. It doesn't mean your immune though. Yes its stupid today, but it had its evolutionary advantages in the past. Some people are just a little more behind than others. Had some stranger walk into your community back when people were not aware of everyone on the planet, and its was beneficial to be weary of him/her. But its up to the individual today to get rid of it as an evolutionary disadvantage at this point. It no longer serves a positive role for us. But if you wish to base your racism/stereotyping on non-logic when we have such readily accessible knowledge and ability to learn about other cultures to see if for yourself your beliefs are true, I view that as unintelligent. Internet, book stores, libraries and all that shizz, there is no excuse to be ignorance of such important matters, unless its willfully, in which case that's unintelligence. Well, an "intelligent racist" would probably be swayed by informing. I mean, theres a difference between not knowing any better and refusing to learn any better.
While they are probably very few and far between, any genuinely intelligent person who also happens to be racist could probably have their opinions swayed with cold hard facts. A lot of racism is opinion based too. While it seems morally wrong to most of us, some people have different opinions on morals. I guess that doesn't make them WRONG, to them, we're wrong...ya see? Quite the gray area. |
