Default I was just in a fender bender, what to do?

Ok asking a question on auto insurance here maybe a little unusual, but i am more familiar with this forum than any auto forums.

The situation is this, I was driving in the parking lot of a mall in searching of a space to park my car, while another car suddenly pulled out of a parking space and the back of their car bumped into the side of my car's bumper. Since this is my first auto accident, i didn't know what to do beside going apeshit at the driver of the other car, after the other driver kept making excuses as to not seeing while she was in reverse and pulling out of the parking space, even though my car was stationary. I called my dad first, and he came to check on the accident. He told me not to bother with the police, nor the insurance company since the damage was hardly noticeable, and that I can try to settle this as quietly as possible. After obtaining the license and insurance info of the opposite party, we both drove our separate ways. But i then realized that i should've written down a piece of paper stating they will pay for all repair costs and make them sign it. After getting back home, my mom told me that the other party would probably not pay for the repair bill since i forgot to get them to sign some responsibility statement, and that the police won't believe the other party's car bumped into mine since theres basically no mark, but i still wanted some sort of compensation. do you guys think its too late for me to demand any types of compensation? what can i do if they refuse my demand?

Thanks.

For something legal and stuff like this, you ask someone who knows what they're doing: IE. parents, lawyers, whatever. Not some random people on a video game forum.

Do you have any pictures of where you were hit? Where exactly were you hit? Did they hit your wheel or a panel on the car? Does the car feel the same while driving (at speed) no wobble or anything? Sorry about all of the questions but if you have no damage at all then there is no need to do anything.

It's always good to take pictures in a accident.

You just never know what your getting yourself into.

I would take it to a local panel beater if you are that worried and get them to have a look at it. Surely, if there is any damage done, they will be able to notice. Keep in mind things can look fine at a glance but there could be things that are moved out of alignment and paint cracked that could cause rust to build up later on.

If you got the persons details you can also make an insurance claim and they will be able to liaise with the other parties insurer to see who was at fault.

The more info you give in these scenarios the stronger your case is if the other party denies it was their fault.

One example I have is a motorbike was lane splitting at a round about and because they weren't in the lane I didn't seem them and clipped the back of her.

However by taking photos and drawing a detailed diagram of where she was and where I was(which matched up with the damage shown in the photos) the insurer went in my favor as the dent in the left side of the car didn't match her side of the story(she attempted to claim I ran smack bang in the middle of her).

Point of the story is, when it comes to an accident you can never ever ever have to much info/evidence.

Everyone should have a standard accident report card in the car to fill out.

I don't know if there is such a thing in the US. If there isn't try to get something close to that. It's totally essential.

No photos?
No signed details of the incident?

I think it may be to late at this point. It may be rough for em to explain how you got their insurance info, but without photos, or proof at this point it will be really difficult or impossible to hold em accountable.

You can always call the insurance as see if theres anything that can be done with what you have.
