That is really wierd I never had that happen to me before. I would suggest you go down south of the town and you can go kill little treants, werewolfs and another monster for a while. Also there is a quest that once you kill 20 little treants you get 750 exp with 1250gp and is repeatable. That is where I trained from lvl 15-17.
