Sup, everyone. It's time for onRPG's first ever game development contest! Hosted by onRPG's game development section, this hopefully will be the first of many contests to come.
First of all, before any of you stop reading, I just want to reiterate that there is no previous experience required; this competition is mainly designed to get everyone into the mood of designing a few games!
The competition will involve two independent stages; you can participate in either stage, or both; details below.
Stage 1 - Game Proposals
The first stage is the proposal submission stage. Basically, you're going to want to make a document that lists some basic information about the game you'd like made, and then go into some specifics. Submissions should be at the very most 2 pages. At the very most. Try to keep it clear, simple and concise. Even submissions of a paragraph are fine, if they convey all the necessary information!
The games submitted should be relatively simple, something slightly more complex than tetris, for example, but with a cool gimmick or nice twist. It can be anything text-based or 2D, any genre, RPG, Puzzle, Platform, you name it. But no 3D. Sorry, it's just too complicated at this point. Anyway, then you're going to PM/email me, or post your proposal, and if it's realistic it'll be posted in a public poll, at the end of the two weeks, and the community will vote on it, the option with the plurality of votes winning.
Proposals should contain the name of your game, your game's genre, your username, and a detailed description of the game. They don't have to be spell checked or proof-read, but I'd appreciate it and, chances are, if your proposal is super disorganized and and misspelled, it probably won't get voted up.
This stage will last two weeks, so from now until the 26th, and the winner of this will be able to get a custom user title (the phrase under your name).
Here's an example of how the submission might look (though you can differ from this if you want)

Stage 2 - Development
Once a proposal is chosen by popular vote, development will begin. Anyone can participate; tutorials for software like Game Maker, and programming languages, for people who want to go that route will be provided in the Game Development forum. No previous knowledge of programming or game creation software is necessary! You can learn as you program/create! Using these tools, any person or team can make the game described in the winning proposal.
After a period of about two months (so, sometime in November) all submitted entries will be put up for another vote. This time, it'll be a run-off style vote, where people will vote for their favorite game, and a majority will determine the winner.
For the winner(s), they'll get custom user titles, and a model pack made by one of our forum members, Darkhell153, which is filled with various models, for use in a 3D game, listed here:

This is all supposed to be somewhat of a learning experience for everyone, so please, don't hesitate to jump in, even if you don't know what you're doing. We'll all help you out! So why not think up a cool idea for a game right now, so you can either see it being made, or help make it yourself?
If you have any questions, either post in this thread, PM me, or post in the game dev section, and I'll do my best to try an answer you. Remember, there are no stupid questions! (Okay, well, there are, but feel free to ask anyway

)
Whew! I think that's everything. I've probably forgot some stuff in this post, so, again, don't hesitate to ask for clarification on anything you're not sure on.
