Well, I'll try and explain it.
I'm using Photoshop so the techniques are different, but the overall point is still the same.
The flow is the general direction of your signature. Determine it by the way your render is placed, the way your render is leaning, etc. Anything that would point the render in a specific direction.
See how her head is tilted to the left? Your effects should all lean that way, which would give the signature a flow from the bottom-right to the top-left.
Now, just because of the C4D I'll be using, let's pretend the flow is backwards, so it's heading up to the top-right. Find a C4D/edit one so it goes that direction.
This is the C4D I chose:
Now, the part on top doesn't really go with the flow, plus it makes the C4D too big and bulky. Thus, I'll delete the top half.
Then, I am left with this:
Now, it goes with the flow and it's a managable width and height. Now you'd apply whatever effects to it you want to make it blend it better. Brushing, smudging, layer effects, etc.
