Default Takran Online Poll: Jobs List

Greetings from Takran Online. We are a 3D ORPG under development. The following is one in a series of polls directed at RPG players so that we may better understand what the gaming community expects from an online RPG.

A Brief description of the game:
3D ORPG with a PVP focus set in midieval times. The world is separated into territories that factions of people capture in order to get resources.
======
Survey Topic #1

What jobs would you expect an online RPG to have in-game?

Keep in mind:
We are trying to engage players and at the same time promote a greater domestic market created by crafters. What the NPC stores sell is very limited. Also: there is NO PvE.

Since you are looking to have player crafters I assume to sorta keep control of the economy and not rely on NPCs, then I have a few suggestions:
  1. NPCs items should be of lesser quality then a crafters handmade items or more expensive.
  2. Items found off of loot from a mob shouldnt be so great a quality that a crafter cant compete with it.
  3. Crafters should be able to buy up the shops ran by the NPCs and stock them themselves for others to buy.

Jobs in an RPG..
  1. A tradesman: A character that will travel the lands selling from one territory to another.
  2. Blacksmith: A character that specializes in the building of all things metal
  3. Carpenter: A character that specializies in the building of all things wooden
  4. Miner: A character that mines the caves and mountainsides for minerals to sell to the blacksmith
  5. Lumberjack: A character that cuts down the trees along the land to sell to the carpenter.
  6. Hunter: A character that will hunt and trap food to sell to the town
  7. Nobleman: A character that can hold position in a town, being the Lord or just the man in charge.

I guess you could expand on that, Im ripping things from my brain, and being 2:20am its hard to concentrate but thats what Ive got so far.

[edit]Characters should have to have some way to start from scratch and work their way up into a noblemans position or something like that. Just to keep from having someone start the game not knowing anything but are automatically the king of the lands =\[/edit]

Thanks for the input. You bring up some good points.

Keep to the crafting jobs. Politics is something we will ask about in a future poll

Also...I updated the above topic to state that we have no PvE.

Id also like to say that as a trading character, I find it the most annoying and fun ruining experience to be just minding my own business mining or working on something to have someone just pop up out of no where and kill me. Without cause or reason.

So speaking from a crafters point of view, Id suggest that combat between players be more roleplayed out then just one character showing up out of no where and killing him then taking his stuff and leaving.

I understand you want to base the game on PvP aspect, but seriously, thats the quickest way for me to quit a game is to be crafting then killed without reason.

Yea good point. It is really annoying to get killed when crafting.

The way we have it setup the fighting only takes place when you are ready. Unless ofcourse its a covert mission and all the guys are rogues.

No other responces? We would really like to know what the onRPG community thinks. This is an indie game development group and we are trying to build a community-based RPG.
