The argument that its unfair to review a game before its official release is more rabid fanboyism than it is sound judgment. Why is it unfair? The fact that a game is in beta doesn't mean that we should ignore its faults. Reviews are designed to inform and educate. A buggy beta shouldn't be completely ignored by reviewers. Rather the fact that its buggy should be afforded some consideration in the reviewer's opinion. And thats precisely what the OP did, he said "I realize the game's not done yet, etc. etc."
More so than other games, MMOs do not have a "finished" or "complete" form; they are constantly being updated and improved. Betas are intended to be playable versions of a final game, so they are fair game for criticism. How else would a developer improve their game without testers "reviewing" it? It's not like someone is writing a review of a private test build in its early stages.
A critique of DFO at this stage is useful and completely valid because what you play now is substantially what the game will be in the future. To borrow Sparks' analogy, the "egg" that is DFO is not going to turn into a "cake." It's just going to be a fancier egg.

Although this "review" doesn't inform you on much of anything, and even with it I could it a different experience/note from a better player.
