C/C++ is pretty robust and flexible for making... anything really along the lines of 3d or 2d, online, offline games. Network efficiancy, performance is based on how its coded. The vast majority of games, offline/online are coded this way, so you can't really go too wrong.

There is always python aswell, it could be used to make complex things, depends on how complex you'd want to go.
And java as well another option.


I'm no programmer, so its best to get a word in from someone who does know more about the languages, advantages and disadvantages, and what your looking to someday reach.
