I believe there is a RAM addon that you can throw into slot 2 for the lite, but why would I bother having a big chunk sticking out the bottom..

All this is, is bringing out a "half-release" rather than a "new handheld release". They are forcing consumers to get the latest if they want to enjoy more games - even though they've already paid for one handheld to do this. Upgrade and enjoy the new DSi-ware (and more than likely newer games coming out to maximize the RAM potential) is all they are doing. Shrug. Just like Sony with the PSPGo. Getting rid of UMDs and making them worthless, and making all games download-only (which is so far preventing piracy very well). So basically, the new system is worthless for the people that have already bought tons of games.

Hence the reason that I don't buy handheld games unless I think the developer deserves it.
I think you are misunderstanding the situation with this DSi XL. It's not like the PSPgo at all. It's just an amped up version of the DSi.

These are the specs, from the same article cinderboy linked in.

Look carefully:

4.2" screen, TFT color liquid crystal (260,000 colors)
Width 161.0mm
Length 91.4mm
Thickness 21.2mm
Stylus length: 96.0mm
Large stylus length: 129.3mm
Weight: 314g
Battery life: 4-5 hours maximum brightness, 13-17 hours minimum brightness
Charging time: 3 hours (when fully depleted)
*******--DS card slot******
--SD memory card slot
--AC adapter
--Stereo headphone/Microphone connected terminal

The new DSi XL has a DS card slot; It's backwards compatible and not download only. The non transfer problem only has to do with DSiware games purchased on one system cannot be transferred to another system, but isn't the case with DS games. It's the same with the Wii, there are Wii games you have to buy a hard copy of, such as Super Mario Galaxy or Zelda: Twilight Princess, and then there are WiiWare games which you buy with Wii shop points, such as A Boy and His Blob. Except in the case with the Wii, you can transfer your purchases from the Wii Shop if you back them up on an SD card.

The new DSi enhanced games should still work on a DS, but without the same quality. So unlike the PSPgo, which isn't backward compatible at all, no one is going to have to upgrade to the newest version unless they want to play DSiWare which most won't. DSiWare games are not going to be the same kind of quality as the mainsteam games coming out for the DS. Chances are, they are mostly going to be games from third parties such as web games like Bejeweled or something.

Sony might have screwed over people with their handheld, Nintendo did not.

Further confirmation is that they are still making games for the "DS", and not just "DSi" or "DSiWare" specific, such as Golden Sun, Rune Factory 3 and Okamiden. They talk about this stuff in GI all the time and mentioned that the developers are continuing to make games compatible with all DS handhelds; Pick up a copy and confirm.

No reason to not buy something because you've been misinformed.
