Smart missiles had a over 50% rate of failure, in the main big chance of proving their worth in their appliance.
(They kinda vanished from the picture, right? They still use them, you just won't see any of that on TV anymore.)
Now the tech is the same, just applied against an immobile target, where you can pick the whole array of environmental parameters to get the best chance of striking and what you get is missiles that hardly get close to any effect.
