It was always best to avoid the back alleys of Merula, when one was walking alone at night. Those who made the small town their home knew it was in their best interest to keep to the well-lit main road, or gather in the local inn. Unlike many of the larger town, Merula was not home to a boisterous gang of bandits, or cutthroats who liked to torment the civilians. Instead, it served as a stop for the night, for travellers inbetween destinations. During the day the merchants set up their wares, eager to sell provisions to whomever walked by.
It was because of its location near the wide Grette sea did the citizens take caution. With so many strangers drifting in and out of the town, who knew what kind of villains could turn up. On top of that, there had been rumours lately, of a local barkeep finding mutilated bodies of sailors that had washed ashore. "No human could have done this, it had to be some kind of beast," he told anyone who asked. Most believed him, but even those who were skeptical didn't want to take the chance of encountering the predator.
The shops had long since closed, the street vendors had gathered up their tents and left for the night, safely asleep in their homes. The streets were quiet, save for the faint sound of music and laughter wandering from the nearby inn. Two figures were behind a tall building, empty silhouettes to anyone who passed by.
One was a man, of slightly muscular build, he had been drinking at the pub and felt the perfect way to end his night was to bed with a mysterious woman he met on his way out. He had her shoved against the wall, breathing in her sweet scent, her pale blonde hair brushing over his face.
"I know you want me," she said quietly, her voice was odd, almost inhuman. He grinned and put his hand up her skirt, looking into her eyes. She was staring intently at him, her light green eyes piercing. He was unnerved and hesitated, looking instead at her luscious curves, feeling a stir inside him once again. "Don't you want me?" she said, angered by his hesitance, almost spitting the words. She gripped his face with surprising strength and made him look into her eyes, "I thought you wanted to play with me."
Frightened at the sudden change in this woman, the man tried to back away.
"I- I think I should go.." he stammered, his eyes wide. He tried to turn and look for an escape but her grip was too hard.
"Touch me!" the woman said, her voice rising in pitch, "or I will kill you." She let go of the man's face and pulled out a dagger, twisting it into his chest. He let out an anguished cry and pawed at her chest in vain, all he managed to grab was her necklace, when he first saw it he thought it was pearls... but now that it was in his hand he saw that it was made of human teeth.
"W-what the hell are y-you!" he gurgled, pushing himself away from the woman and falling to the ground.
"My name is Ophelia," she said quietly, wiping the blade on her bustier, "but you will never know..."
