I looked over the forums some and didn't notice this one catagory of free games. They are emulators of some of the well known MMORPGs. I've read about them for EQ, Ultima Online and WoW. Provided certain guidelines are followed they are legal. From what I can tell EQEmu follows them.

If you are an X-EQ player EQEmu (Everquest Emulator) may be a way of experiencing days gone by. The only requirement is that you have a fresh install of the Everquest Titanium edition, nothing more, nothing less. It's a little bumpy getting started but they try hard to make the instructions as clear as possible.
