Default My in-depth review of FFXI

I've decided to make a review of FFXI because of so many people asking about the game. Hopefully I can get this a sticky

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pros: Amazing stories, great graphics, has that great Final Fantasy feel, great community, awesome gameplay, Square Enix takes time to make their expansion packs unlike *cough cough Everquest*
Cons: Time consuming, extremely addicting, new players can get lost somewhat easily in the big world, getting a party can be cumbersome, if you don't like MMORPGs then FFXI won't change your mind.
STORY 9.5/10
Since Square Enix is known for making amazing and dramatic stories, FFXI really takes the cake in MMORPG story lines. In other MMORPGs there really is no story other than the lore in the game manual. But in Final Fantasy XI its a straight down Final Fantasy plot in MMORPG clothing. Its dramatic, funny, sad, fun and ultimatly satisfying. The only problem is you have to take large chunks of time to get parties then finnaly finish the mission unlocking the cut-scene which if you don't have the patiance, can be quite tedious.
GAMEPLAY 9.9/10
Final Fantasy XI blends oldschool RPG gameplay with fluid MMORPG flarč that ulimatly makes you feel right at home. Although it can be slow, its still makes you feel right at home while playing it. The battle system is also very stratigic because you can't just solo. In FFXI you have to use teamwork 24/7 after level 10 to get experiance points and level up, and ultimatly makes you feel very satisfyed after you get a kill. Another great thing about FFXI is the job system, you have the 6 basic jobs (Warrior, Monk, Redmage, Blackmage, Whitemage and Thief) and once you get to level 30 you get to unlock advance jobs (Dark Knight, Paladin, Summoner, Beastmaster etc.) through differant quests. Also you can change your job any time you want, you just go into your mog house and change your job. Which is great because normaly in other MMO's you have to make another character to really get a feel for the other jobs. The GUI is also cuztomizable and comes in differant colors. The keyboard lay-out is differant, but can be changed to a standard WASD movement scheme.
COMMUNITY 8.0/10
The community is what makes the MMO really flourish, and FFXI's community is friendly and helpful. Although sometimes you run into the occasional flamer, the community still great. Also the GMs serve justice, they won't tolorate anyone who breaks the rules.
VALUE: 8.7/10
The games value is great. There are three versions, the PC version, the PS2 version and the Xbox 360 version. Each version is cross compatable with one another (example: You play on the PC version while someone else is on the PS2, but you can still play with eachother), and FFXI is also region free. So you can be playing with someone from Japan or Europe. The most expensive version is the PS2, because it comes with an extra hard-drive and is a whopping $100 and is very rare. The PC version and Xbox version are much cheaper, both ranging at $30 retail.
GRAPHICS: 9.9/10
The graphics in FFXI are just supurb, Square Enix did a marvolous job. The character models are the most detailed I've ever seen. Although the enviorment is somewhat blurry when you get close up to it. But the game is pushing 4 years and still looks amazing. The choices for characters is somewhat dissapointing because you only get a set of customization for the faces. But the accesories make up for it, because although you don't have very much character face customization you get many many options for clothing, weapons, rings, earrings and so on. You also get five character races: The TaruTaru (a small magical race) The Elvaan (a proud elvish race) The Galka (a huge muscilar race) The Hume (your regular human) and the Mithra (a fast cat race). There are 3 nations to start out in: Bastok (home for the Galka and Hume) Windhurst (home for the TaruTaru and Mithra) and San'doria (home for the Elvaan). You can pick any place you want to start out it, but picking your race specific area gets you a reward. Also the cities are lush and gorgious, they're huge and have castles, gateways, Auction Houses, rivers and much more.
LANDSCAPE: 10/10
From the dungeon of Ghelsba Outpost to the huge forest of Ronufare to the gigantic Tahrongi Canyon, everything is so immersive it boggles the mind. There are full weather effects, a day and night cycle, huge areas to explore and gigantic ponds to go to. The possibilities are endless. You can fish, explore, mine, party, chat. Its so immersive and fun that it makes a great experiance.
OVERALL:
The game is huge, the graphics are great, the story is amazing and the gameplay is addicting. Theres nothing much more to say other than thankyou for reading this review and I hope you get a good amount of info from this review.
FINAL RATING
9.7/10
i dont agree with community you come in came you have a better class or 1 they dont like and they are all scolding like F***** off get your own town or something when you enter a town. and when you ask help in the game they always say find out yourself n00b!!
for me the community isnt that nice.
game play isnt that good either cause you neede skill spamming when you solo cause without skills you need alot of pots.
graphics are nice and all but there are games with better graphics and that would make the other games a 10/10 so no good points either.
so most of these ratings are a bit to high i wouldve made anther rating like.
community 6.2/10
gameplay 8/10
story 9.3/10
graphics 8.9/10
value 9/10
landscape 7.8/10
this sounds like a better rating for the game
Everyone has their own personal tastes. And if you got chewed out by the community on FFXI then you got in a really bad server dude :P.
BLU is only moderatly good on Ballista...
They're pretty good in one-on-one situations, but
Ballista isn't about 1v1. In regular team matches, they are
way easy to kill. I'd say they're like 3rd on the "kill for gate breach" list, second only to WHMs and DRKs.
lol.. I have been playing ff11 for a month now and not even one.. called me a noob, nobody even said the word "****", I only ran into people above age 18, I was suprised when i met someone yesterday who was 16 and he was very mature, so a pretty good community. Also... when you die.. everyone will be happy to raise you, or cure you. Give advice jada jada... unlike.. Silkroad where they let you die to get the exp themselves
The one who said Dragoon's are better then warrior's is false, unless dragoon has sub class war for provoke, they aren't as valueble then warriors who can serve as a tank in a party.
One thing about ff11 which is annoying me sometimes is that it isn't easy finding a decent party, hence lvling can be slow like... (days including school) .. I lvl from 11 to 16 in 2 hours with a good pt, but the next three days I only obtain 2 lvls because I haven't found a good party or none at all. Which is... annoying!
True true about the partying. If you get into a good Linkshell your level you can easily party. And yeah, thats why I like the community, its very mature ^^b
