Default Christmas present from the Insurgents to the U.S. :30-day truce to get out of Iraq

Just saw this on CNN site:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/...rss_topstories

It's already well been said by anyone with any level of knowledge in military strategy that we will NEVER win Iraq and it will just go on for ever and ever till the end of time or the US collapse.

I just hope Bush's ego doesn't get in the way and we don't take this advantage.

At this point we'd merely be causing more problems by dropping everything and leaving. Face it, we've caused a helluva mess over there, something needs to be done about cleaning it up ASAP. 30 days is not enough. This isn't about winning a war anymore, it's about righting the wrongs we've committed by doing our best to restore at least an image of order.

Not to mention the leave all heavy weaponry behind clause? Leaving on those terms would only consolidate the Islamist fundamentalist power in the region which would in turn would make politics a lot more complicated in the Middle East.

I really dislike the war (and Bush, at that) but I'm not so keen on taking them up on this Christmas gift.

We got 30 days after Christmas. Even though they're terrorist it's very dishonorable to not obey to your word in that culture so I'm pretty sure they'll be lighting up the Christmas Tree on January 25, 2007.

Call me crazy, but I actually believe the Iraqis wouldn't attack the departing soldiers; however trusting your enemy in war isn't the smartest thing you could do. Can only pray we can get our soldiers out of Iraq on more reasonable terms.

Really, I agree there. We should have to clean up the mess we made, but we can't clean it up with all the insurgents attacking us in the first place, and right now the general population if Iraq is not happy with the US occupying the country.
These insurgents will never go away. Ever. They will stay there and continue to attack us while we are there, so attempting to fix what we messed up is impossible. We are given a 30 free-time to get out of there, I don't see any reason not to take it because we will never be able to right our wrongs. We will either get that 30 days, or we will get nothing at all, and I got to say, 30 days is A LOT better than nothing.

We have lost nearly 3000 lives to this war(maybe even more than 30010 by now)
Yea, they want the weapons, but of course that doesn't mean that they really would. There are some smart people in the white-house. They can figure something out. And for sure, they would not just hand it over to the enemy. Worst case scenario would be that they would just simply destroy those weapons at the last moment. The solders get out and the weapons do not go into enemy hands. Simple as that(one would note that it doesn't state the condition of the weapons).

One problem there. In our current state of debt, popping a few bombs off in a few hundred pieces of multi-million dollar machinery isn't something we can afford to do. I'm all for leaving, it's gone on way too long now, and it's not going to stop, but that's just not the way to do it. Now, if we were to pull out with the gear, that's a different story. Would it make any friends over there? No, but it wouldn't be giving them anything to salvage either.
