Default Help me with my computer ._.

...again

Kay, well, I have absolutely no disk space. Well, not absolutely none. But I'm at a damn all time low.

I apologize for being computer retarded.

I noticed I had a problem when I tried to install The Sims 2. It said I didn't have enough space on my drive blah blah whatever. So I ran a defrag to check it out, here's the report.

Quote:
Volume (C
Volume size = 28.60 GB
Cluster size = 4 KB
Used space = 27.50 GB
Free space = 1.10 GB
Percent free space = 3 %

Volume fragmentation
Total fragmentation = 32 %
File fragmentation = 38 %
Free space fragmentation = 27 %

File fragmentation
Total files = 396,496
Average file size = 99 KB
Total fragmented files = 12,718
Total excess fragments = 99,466
Average fragments per file = 1.25

Pagefile fragmentation
Pagefile size = 316 MB
Total fragments = 54

Folder fragmentation
Total folders = 9,715
Fragmented folders = 180
Excess folder fragments = 6,690

Master File Table (MFT) fragmentation
Total MFT size = 403 MB
MFT record count = 407,100
Percent MFT in use = 98 %
Total MFT fragments = 571
So I deleted all un needed pictures, documents, and programs. I only managed to clean 3% making it 5% free space left =/

Not good still.

Let me add that I have 1100 songs in my library.

Okay uhm. To the point. My questions are:

1.) How much of my computer space is taken up by the 1100 songs? Just an estimate. I don't want to delete my entire library to find out nothing is changed.

2.) My friend said he has his music on a removable hard drive. How complicated and this and how much will it cost for a hard drive to hold my songs?

3.) Uhm. I dunno. Just give me tips on how to clean my hard drive. I've disk cleaned up, defragged, and deleted all documents pics & programs. Deleting my music is a last resort.

I'm sorry this isn't really in-depth. I'm tired as hell.

1.) I have 1053 songs. Its about 4.00 GBs. Not alot.

2.)You can get an external hard drive, or if u have another slot for it, get another hard drive only for music. The cost isn't much. 100-300$. Depending on how much you want it to hold.

3.) It looks like you only have 28 GIGs of space. You might wanna save all your music onto C.D's under MP3 format and get a new hard drive if you don't want any more complications. Perferbly, 80-100 GIGs.

1.) Depends, per song it's usually 3-5mb? Now you do the math.

2.) I think your friend is talking about a external hard drive, it's not that very hard to use. Usually it has ALOT of space, but it's pricey. Just look for it in the stores. Extremely usefull in my opinion if you want to share files with friends or something. (movies, games etc ^_^)

3.) I would just buy a new or put in an extra HD (if it's possible). Check your software at Tools and uninstall the programs you don't need.

1) 1100 songs? On my computer it takes up 2 GB.

2) External hard drives are REALLY good. I have 2 of them that hold 400 GB and each one cost $100. I only used up one.

3) Just put your music on the hard drive, and you can listen all the music from there.

1. You can check this be be exact. All you need to do is right-click on the library (or highlight everything and right-click), and go to the tab that says 'Properties'. When you click on it, it should tell you exactly how much memory it's taking up.

2. External hard drives are very easy to use. It's just like a flash drive, except bigger. Just plug it into the USB port whenever you need it, and you're set. I recommend getting an external hard drive, and if you look, you can find some at really cheap prices. I think you should be able to get a gigabyte for each dollar you spend.

3. Well, since you've deleted a lot of things, I'm not really sure I can really give you tips. I'd just suggest getting an external hard drive, or if you want, an internal hard drive. You can't really go much with 1G of space left...

Delete games you're not really playing. Try using CCleaner for more clean.

I suggest getting another hard drive.
The starter size for desktop set-ups these days is 60GB.
Your music, I would guess takes anywhere from 1GB to 4GB of space, not that much really.
Run disk clean-up, and also delete your old system restore points(done in disk clean up, on the second tab in the window)
That there should free up enough space for SIMs 2, and after that... get another hard drive.
